Via Engadget: Motorola and Skype hop in bed on devices and accessories

"You know Motorola, and you know
Skype, and apparently they think they’re two great
tastes that (we hope will) taste great together . . . Moto announced they’re going to
be readying a line of ‘Skype Ready’ products along the lines of Bluetooth headsets, dongles, and speakphones, and let
us not forget, mobile phones."

I’m wondering if the Skype brand and service will help Motorola gain some ground in the cell phone space. Nokia currently maintains a double digit advantage in market share over Moto.

I don’t know about you, but when I hear the word Motorola, I think batteries and transistor radios for some reason. Definitely not a tech savvy name/brand. And I even own a Moto cell phone. Perhaps Moto and Skype should think about launching a cool new brand. A new category, perhaps, that blends Skype’s VoIP prowess and tech savvy brand image with Moto’s marketing budget and technological muscle. MotoSkype anyone?

Maybe it would be a good little project for The Apprentice. Okay. Maybe a bit too much. In any event I’m off now to watch The Donald fire somebody’s ass.
