Leveraging & Managing Social Media Tools

Tune in to BlogTalk Radio, hosted by Blogging and Beyond, to hear Lena West from xynoMedia Technology offer her insights on how small and medium size businesses are using blogs and other social media tools.

During this fun, 30-minute podcast Lena also offers some tips on how to manage what she calls the “social media spaghetti”. Here’s a snapshot of topics covered:

  • Using social media to create a “fabric of conversation around your company”
  • Coming up with content for your blog
  • Why social media is not “magic in a box”
  • Using online video strategically to produce what Lena calls “The Cinderella Effect”
  • Why YouTube needs content

Another neat tool for managing your “social media spaghetti”, or at least the blogs you read, is Pageflakes. SBB contributor Steve Woodruff introduced me to this site recently – check out Steve’s customised portal of Branding and Marketing blogs here.

Online Video is Hot

If Lena whet your appetite for using online video, check out the article from e-Marketer, Viral Marketing’s Video Love Affair.

If you’re marketing specifically to men or women, statistics in the US reveal that more women are online than men, and this is expected to continue. But currently more men watch online videos than women. So if you market products specifically to men, online video might be a great option for you.

  1. This is great stuff! I’ve loved looking over the articles here, and especially love the information about Audio and video. I’m going to use the content to build my business Thanks!

  2. …I’m really interested in finding some community forums where other marketers / advertisers of small companies chat about ideas, concepts, out of the box strategies that work – any recommendations? I’d greatly appreciate any feedback you have (email me, if you can!)

    thanks!

    1. Jason,

A nice spot is marketingprofs.com. The forum section allows you to ask questions on topics and get expert advice back. It’s pretty interesting.

One thing I wish most blogs I visit had was an open question area. Because of the audience at a particular location I often times have a question I’d like to ask everyone. But I am only allowed to comment on someone elses post.
So when I have to nudge in and ask my question I feel ackward as I am aware that I am taking the discussion off topic and that isn’t the intention of commenting.

      Have fun at marketing profs.

  3. Hey Joseph, thanks for the great feedback! So glad you found the site helpful. Best wishes with your business, and do call again 🙂

    Cheers/Danielle

  4. Ed, thanks for jumping in!

Jason – that’s a really good question! The only forum I can think of is Yaro’s at http://www.blogtrafficschool.com/forums – it may not be exactly what you’re looking for, but there’s a section in there for Internet Business & Entrepreneurship which may interest you.

The timing of your comment is really interesting because I keep coming across this lately – people wanting marketing discussion forums (written and audio) to chat with their peers. I think we’re going to see more and more of this. One other thing place you might like to try is “5000bc” at Psychotactics – http://www.psychotactics.com/5000bc.htm#example – this guy is great. It’s not free, but it’s very affordable and it’s a forum specifically for marketing.

Let me know how you go!
    Cheers/Danielle
