As I mentioned previously the new Small Business Branding website design was completed by Michael Pollock, who is in charge of the Solostream Webstudio blog design business.
Michael did the complete layout and all the graphics using the existing WordPress back-end. I also asked him for some custom features – I wanted each writer to be able to control what advertisements are placed on their article pages and author archives. By doing this each author can decide how to make use of their content published to Small Business Branding. If they want to monetize their work they can place advertisements in the allotted space or if they want to promote their other websites and blogs they may place text links or banners or whatever they want.
Michael provided a fantastic solution. In the back-end user control panel each writer has access to a section where they can input some code which will go live only on their articles and archives. They can change the details at any time and test any format of advertising based on their needs. Each author has control over a right sidebar area (300*250) and a banner sized (468*60) space at the end of every article they write. I think this is a really innovative way to reward authors in a group blogging format and make use of the fantastic WordPress technology to do it.
Empowering and rewarding authors for their work
Michael’s solution was exactly what I was after. It provides a mechanism to reward Small Business Branding authors based on their individual work and empowers them with control of how they leverage their exposure on Small Business Branding. Authors who write more often and more popular articles will enjoy more page impresses and therefor more displays of their advertising areas.
Best of all, with multiple authors providing regular features means there is more content going to our readers, increasing the overall readership of the blog. When the overall readership increases then of course each author also benefits. It really is a case of the whole being greater than the sum of it’s parts, and it wouldn’t be possible without the help of Michael Pollock.
If you are in need of blog design I wholeheartedly recommend Solostream Webstudio.
Hi Mike – yes, this is wordpress 2.0 and it has a multi-user function which I have enhanced by adding the user management plugin so I can set permissions for different users.
The new site design looks great. It seems like a great way to monetize for your contributors.
Are you running the mult-user version of WP?
Very nice design.
But: You have a typo in the last link to solostream! 😉
