Having studied advertising in the past and worked closely with an ad agency to create everything from TV ads to billboards and print, I have always noticed ads. This is even more true outdoors. When traveling, I’d watch out for those billboards. It truly is marvelous how creative some agencies are. What’s more interesting to me, it seems the simplest ads does it best whether it is to get the message across or to strengthen a brand. Check out some of them.

Lego
What is Lego if it doesn’t stand for building? Brilliant branding. There are actually many examples of Lego in outdoor advertising. One was containers stacked on top of each other dressed up as Legos. Smart!
IKEA
I love, Ikea to death. They’ve also always been rather innovative in their advertising. I know they had put up rooms at airports for weary travelers to rest and couches at train stations. This one is just as cool.

Power beyond the ordinary – clearly.
Eskom
Believe it or not, this is something Ken and I talk about a lot. Companies wasting power needlessly. Great advertising, better branding.

The type of advertisement can vary relying on upon the type of audience that is intended to attract. Like in case of mass marketing, a single product is manufactured for the whole market without considering the marketing mix.
Some of these are extremely clever, thanks for sharing. I really want the experience of showering under a giant Sprite soda fountain one day! However, I think the best ad was Eskom. It was simple, yet powerful without  being over the top. Not to mention, when you’re driving around and you see billboard after billboard, the Eskom one makes you stop and think how much energy is being used to power those billboards. It takes a bite out of the competition.Â

 @Jonathan Trent Yes it is. I used to work for an advertising agency and finding ‘that one big idea’ is often elusive, but if you hit it, it pays big time. However, I’ve always been cautioned to keep in mind. Creativity is one thing. At the end of the day, the goal is for people to remember your brand. If people remember the ad but not the brand then, we haven’t done our job well.

 @Hannah Hamilton I know it makes me look twice in the pictures but It would definitely make me even stop to look in real life.
I might even give it a try to wash myself in that big sprite dispenser if that is the case. 🙂
