Yahoo Editing Gawker Content

Just a brief follow-up to my post a few days ago on the Gawker/Yahoo partnership. I refer you particularly to Scott Moore’s statement: "Nick has full editorial control … There’s no editorial oversight by Yahoo."

Well, it seems that wasn’t completely true, Gawker blogger Ana Marie Cox (Wonkette) reported recently:

"Remember how we told you that the Gawker/Yahoo syndication agreement
would not affect content? Not for the first time, we were wrong."

Apparently, Yahoo didn’t appreciate the first name of US Vice President Dick Cheney, so they changed it to "**** Cheney" before they posted it on Yahoo News. Why is this a big deal? Because much of the beauty and power of blogs lay in their unfiltered-ness; their real-life-ness. If big media comes in and starts to filter blog content, you risk losing that part of it’s power.
