How To Record Skype Calls

In our office, all long distance including calls out of the country are done via Skype. And why not. It is cheap and for the most part, gives you pretty clear calls.

I also particularly like Skype for audio interviews because it means I don’t have to hook up extra hardware and deal with a tangle of wires – blech. Thankfully, there are many options to record Skype calls.

Total Recorder. This is the software I use and have been using for a while now. I purchased a license for this not only for Skype but because it can also record anything you hear. Which means even webinars and streaming audio can be captured. Quite versatile and I always like software that can help me do more than one thing.

Pamela. This is a Skype plugin or Extra as they call it, that works exclusively with Skype. Most of my podcasting friends who conduct more interviews than I do love and absolutely recommend it.

There are more of course. I have not had the opportunity needed to test these since we already have a good working solution but I’ll list them here for your convenience.

  1. Thanks Lynette. I’ve used Pamela before and have never had a problem with it. I actually had forgotten the name of it when I formatted my PC so this brought it back to memory for me. From my past experience, I would recommend it as well.

    1. @bistro tables Oh! I totally forgot about GoldWave – see what I mean about needing reminders 🙂 – have not used it in a long time good to see they are still around and improving.

  2. Many people are using Skype nowadays. Since Skype launched the capability of making internet calls all over the world. As for people working in businesses, it would be beneficial if they can actually record each conversation they have for every client. This feature can definitely make the difference.

  3. Personally, I’m just a new user of Skype. Even if that’s the case, I find this messenger much better compared to other competitors. All features of Skype can really help business dealings of people using it. Such feature is the easy to track and to record business calls for your future reference.

  4. Thanks.

I’ve been playing with Pamela (just downloaded it) and can’t seem to get it to record Skype calls. It should be easy but for whatever reason it’s not working as well as all of the reviews. Skype works fine but recording the calls is another issue.

Are there any special “settings” that you need to do when setting it up?

    Thanks.
