You may already publish articles on your own site to provide valuable content to your readers and to generate traffic through search engines, word of mouth, etc. But there are plenty of benefits to distributing your content elsewhere online.
Here are just some of those benefits:
1. Expand your reach
2. Reach new (sub) markets
3. Increased brand recognition
4. Incoming links to your site for traffic and link reputation
5. Connection with other businesses, reaching a similar target market
6. Credibility – having your name out there
Tips to get your content out there:
1. Article directories like Ezine Articles and Go Articles, but don’t limit to that
2. Guest posts on blogs. Find relevant, high traffic blog
3. Sites like Squidoo and Hub Pages – these sites have a good source of traffic to tap into
4. Turn articles into press releases and submit to prweb.com and relevant media
5. Contact content site owners directly to offer your content for publication
6. Contact Ezine owners to see if they’d like to publish your articles in their ezine.
Other Tips:
1. Where original content is required, rewrite and repurpose articles for future distribution
2. Rework articles with relevant examples to suit slightly different audiences.
3. Choose quality over quantity. You don’t have to submit your articles everywhere. Monitor your results and focus on the best performing opportunities
The key is to think strategically and how to maximize the use of the content you create. Whether the same article is published in more than one place, or you rewrite articles for new audience, get extra mileage out of each and every piece. Thanks for the concise primer on the why and how of publishing beyond our own website. As a relative newbie, I found the tips helpful.
Great post. I run a small foot care business in Ontario Canada and I have begun to dabble in producing online content. It has increased my traffic and the number of paitients booking appointments online.
I have found that by producing articles that incorporate the search terms that my buyer personas are looking for online, i can provide valuable information at a time when they need it. This helps establish us as an expert in the field, introduce them to our company, and when appropriate sign them up as a patient.
This is actually my favorite marketing strategy. Distributing quality content on other sites brings in direct traffic and builds your brand recognition. Plus the search engines should find those links which can help your search engine rankings. Doing this on a large scale can produce excellent results. Plus it is a very cost effective marketing method.
Thanks Alice, I haven’t used prweb before I’ll have to check it out. I’ve written a few articles in the last couple of weeks and submitted them to EzineArticles however they’re taking forever to process at the moment. They say they’re backlogged, it’s been 3 weeks or more for 1 article so you may want to let your readers know of a potential delay in that resource.
Thanks for your feedback everyone. I really appreciate it.
Castle Toys, Ezine Articles typically has a backup. They have a paid premium membership and approvals are done quickly and swiftly. But overall, don’t sweat the acceptance time. Just keep publishing content and if it’s time-sensitive, make sure to submit it early.
Great tips! Producing online contents can definitely increase potential customers. I also agree that writers must stay on focus on the quality of the content than quantity. Quality is the key to get regular readers and customers.
I think article marketing is a wonderful idea to increase brand awareness, and I appreciate your tips about it.

Very helpful. I’ve never published an article on EzineArticles without paying because you cannot control the anchor text of the links in your article unless you purchase the $200 pay option. Then you can make your text links whatever keyword you desire. Also, if you want more than one link plan on writing about 100 words per link or Ezine will not allow the links.
