Hi lynette,
It appears that heartwarming, engaging stories are the way to attract new costumers into our brands. Do you think this trend will last a long while? Or the ever changing nature of Social Media will extinguish is soon and we will see a new (maybe self content) form of video marketing?
No because it’s not a trend. People have been telling stories for ages. Think about stories like Aesop’s fables and even urban legends. They are told and retold over time. A good book on this is Made To Stick. Not exactly about storytelling, but definitely about why these stories stick and how to create messages that do.
Storytelling is an awesome way to market and big brands would do good to follow that practice. This is an area I need to work in as I am not that great at story telling. It sounds more like rambling on and on and on. Be Totally Awesome.
Yeah, I am always self conscious about telling a story too but I think the more the story is forced or created, the harder it becomes and the more fake it sounds. So personally, I wouldn’t tell a story just for the sake of telling one and because people say it’s a great technique. Tell one if it genuinely connects and make it count.
Lynette,
Absolutely right! Storytelling is a brilliant form of marketing as helps engage and build a personal, trusting relationship with readers.
