Will Swayne over at the Marketing Results blog has posted a list of 15 Ways To Leverage an Article that looks at using articles for marketing in ways you probably wouldn’t expect.
This list refers to how you can leverage other people’s articles in your business, which is certainly less work than writing your own!
Many of the tips pertain to offline marketing techniques and are quite advanced – I have not come across many of the ideas before. Here is a sample…
9. Presentation Aid: Make a copy of the article, highlight portions of the article and then place it in a plastic sleeve and bring it out when dealing with clients. Refer to highlighted statistics to show prospects three things: (1) you keep up with industry developments; (2) show how your knowledge of this information means you will provide them with a better service or the product you are promoting will help them avoid the problems raised in the article; and (3) use it to overcome an objection or pre-frame a prospect to remove a potential objection.

Thanks for sharing this article. I’ve added some of the tips to our 2007 marketing strategy!
I can think of #16:
If you wrote the article, submit it to a few, reputable online article sumission engines. This increases links back to your site/blog thereby increasing both search engine rankings and visibility.
And, #17:
If you didn’t write the article, take the time to send a letter to the editor of the publication offering feedback or a respectful counter-viewpoint.
Since the most read section of a print publication is the “letters to the editor” section, this will increase your visibility and boost thought-leadership and expert positioning.
Happy leveraging!

Yaro,
Those are definitely different. I think many time people tend to think strictly in terms of IM when talking about articles and this sure gives a person many more options to add to their marketing arsenal.

Some really unique promotional ideas. It is important to get several things to work for you and limit the amount of work you must do personally. Thanks for the article.
its good to have several promotion plans as back up, and knowing where the target audience are is a big help too
