I’ve been neck deep in fleshing out my latest project. I received a lot of valuable feedback about naming the project, and I appreciate that tremendously. As you can tell by the title of the post, I’ve decided to go with Solostream as the project name. Initially, it didn’t grab me, but the more I’ve seen it and said it, the more it’s grown on me. From where I sit currently, this is a general description of Solostream:
Solostream is the global webspace for savvy solopreneurs. We provide the space, information and resources to help solopreneurs:
- launch a business quicker and more effectively than they would on their own.
- grow profits quicker and easier than they would on their own.
- streamline and simplify the operation of their business.
- connect and collaborate with other solopreneurs.
To me, this mission addresses the biggest problems of the solopreneur lifestyle:
- lack of time and/or simplicity;
- lack of a readily available, like-minded network (i.e. isolation);
- lack of sufficient cash flow;
To do this right is a huge undertaking, and there’s still a lot more to think about. I’ve already spoken to a few savvy solopreneurs (e.g. you and you) about what this might look like. I’ve also done some research on similar sites to see what works and what’s missing.
My current thinking is to build this on a WordPress platform, which is an open source software. Meaning it’s free, flexible and well-suppoted by a legion of creative people already using it. From what I can tell, it also works well as a content management system, which will be a key factor in the success of this project. I also like what WordPress represents (i.e. openess, collaboration, RSS, blogging, innovation, etc.).
Am I thinking about this correctly? Is WordPress a good option for a platform/CMS?
I’ll write more on this later. I still have a lot of questions for you all.
