I’m Expecting

No, I’m not pregnant. Nor are any of the significant others in my life. Actually, I’m expecting my new Dell Inspiron 6000 notebook. There it is. Over to the right. The 2-3 week wait is absolutely killing me.

A savvy solopreneur needs a good computer, and this one far exceeds my six-year-old, well-used Systemax desktop unit. It’s been very good to me, but alas, she’s getting tired. 128 mb of RAM just doesn’t cut it anymore, and the 700 megahertz Athlon chip is deader than Elvis (he is dead, isn’t he?).

My new Dell rig is good and ready for some serious moblogging (mobile blogging) with an Intel Pentium M 715 Processor that clocks out at 1.50 GHz. Here’s a more thorough rundown of all the bells and whistles:

  • Intel Pentium M Processor 715 (1.50 GHz/2MB Cache/400MHz FSB)
  • Screen: 15.4" WXGA LCD Panel
  • Video Memory: Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900
  • 512MB Shared DDR2 SDRAM (2 DIMMs)
  • 80GB Hard Drive
  • Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem
  • 8x CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer writing capability
  • 9 cell high capacity lithium ion primary battery (*80Whr)
  • Carry Case: Dell Nylon Carrying Case
  • Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
  • Microsoft Works Suite 2004
  • McAfee Security Center with VirusScan, Firewall, Spyware Removal
  • 3yr ltd warranty, 3yr at-home service, & 3yr technical support
  • Intel Pro/Wireless 2200 Internal Wireless (802.11 B/G, 54mbps)

Can’t wait to get my hands on it. It was a tough choice between the Dell and the Apple iBook, but I couldn’t see having to learn a new operating system. I don’t deal with change so well. The change from a big, bulky desktop to a nimble little notebook will be a welcome change though.
