"An internal committee at The New York Times has made specific recommendations to improve the paper’s credibility with readers.
Here are a few of the ten published suggestions:
- Make reporters and editors more easily available through e-mail.
- Use the Web to provide readers with complete documents used in stories as well as transcripts of interviews.
- Consider creating a Times blog that promotes interaction with readers.
- Establish a system for evaluating public attacks on The Times’s work and determining whether and how to respond.
First of all, these are only suggestions made by an internal NYT committee. There is, however, something to say when one of the world’s most influential publications (arguably) starts chipping away at the walls it’s erected between itself and its customer base. Openness. Transparency. Being Real. That’s what it is. That’s the trend here.
Time will tell if the NY Times follows through. My guess is they will. Slowly.
In the meantime, consider what this means for you and your business. Are you capitalizing on this trend?
